The Duke.

A burgundy cloak curves across silver-grey sleeves and a gold waistcoat. A pale lace cravat rises towards the sitter’s lifted chin, placing her face against a quiet, olive-brown ground. The restrained background leaves the folds, textures and bearing of the figure to carry the portrait.

Original oil painting on canvas.

“The Duke” is part of JoliArtist’s “Art From An Alternate Timeline” collection, a body of work imagining a world in which history unfolded differently: one without misogyny, oppression, or inherited systems of exclusion. Through regal portraiture and classical visual language, the series reimagines power, status, and historical representation through an alternate social reality.
