Lapis Lazuli - Ascension

Heavily textured mixed-media painting on canvas (oil and acrylic).

Size: 48 × 36 in

For centuries, lapis lazuli has been revered for its intense ultramarine colour and spiritual symbolism. More valuable than gold during parts of the Renaissance, the stone was historically reserved for the robes of angels, saints, and the Virgin Mary in sacred art. From ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt to Buddhist traditions, lapis lazuli has symbolised divinity, wisdom, protection, higher consciousness, and transcendence.

This painting serves as a visual ode to what was once known as “The Stone of the Gods,” drawing upon the rich historical and spiritual legacy associated with lapis lazuli across civilisations and mythology.
